The Court of Appeal has acquitted and discharged former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASCLOC), Sedina Christine Tamakloe, overturning her earlier conviction and sentence.
In its ruling, the appellate court held that the prosecution failed to prove the charges brought against the former MASCLOC boss beyond reasonable doubt. The court concluded that the evidence presented during the trial was insufficient to sustain the conviction, and therefore ruled that she should not have been sentenced.
The decision effectively clears Sedina Tamakloe of all the charges for which she had previously been convicted by the High Court.
Tamakloe had been found guilty in a case involving allegations of causing financial loss to the state and other related offences during her tenure at MASCLOC. However, after reviewing the evidence and legal arguments, the Court of Appeal determined that the prosecution had not established its case to the required legal standard.
The ruling brings an end to the appeal process in her favour, marking a significant development in one of Ghana’s high-profile public sector corruption cases. The prosecution is yet to indicate whether it will pursue any further legal action following the Court of Appeal’s judgment.
