Police arrest three in Akatsi robbery crackdown, seizes ammunition

The Special Operations Assistant (SOA) to the Inspector-General of Police has arrested three suspects and retrieved a cache of weapons in Akatsi following recent robberies in the area and its environs.

The targeted operation, disclosed in an official statement by the police, led to the arrest of Enoch Adoglo at Gavekope, on April 21, this year.

Further intelligence led the SOA team to the outskirts of Gavekope where they arrested Cephas Aniwaa, a blacksmith who is believed to manufacture and supply weapons to the suspects. A third suspect, David Adzinu, was also apprehended.

A search conducted on them led to the retrieval of seven single barrel rifles, five locally manufactured pistols, one revolver, sixty-four rounds of ACP ammunition, eleven rounds of AK-47 ammunition, four rounds of 7.62 x 51 ammunition, four live BB cartridges, eighteen spent BB cartridges, three mobile phones, and winding tools, according to the statement.

Further investigations have identified Mensah Kedzi as a key suspect linked to the robberies, including one that took place on April 3, 2026. Kedzi is currently on the run, along with other accomplices including Akakpo, an ex-convict, and Ageh, police said.

The operation follows recent reported incidents of robbery in Akatsi and its environs, which prompted the IGP’s Special Operations Assistant to conduct targeted operations in the area.

Police said efforts have been intensified to ensure all those arrested face the full rigours of the law. A manhunt is ongoing for the remaining suspects.

The three arrested suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
