Hohoe Court Sentences Man to 7 Years for Defiling Minor

The Hohoe Circuit Court has sentenced a 23-year-old man, Felix Agbodzi, to seven years’ imprisonment for defiling a 12-year-old girl at Gbi-Akplamafu in the Volta Region.

The conviction followed the accused’s guilty plea to a charge of defilement, contrary to Section 101(2) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The court, presided over by His Honour Lambert Yiringabaque Kariba, imposed the statutory minimum sentence.

A statement issued by the Ghana Police Service (Volta North Regional Command) said the convict was arrested on April 13, 2026, following a complaint lodged with police and was arraigned the next day.

Preliminary investigations established that the convict lured the victim to his residence where he subjected her to sexual abuse.

Police said investigators built the case within 24 hours of arrest, leading to the swift prosecution and conviction.

The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting children and ensuring that perpetrators of sexual offences are brought to justice, urging the public to report such cases promptly.

Defilement, under Act 29, is a felony and attracts a custodial sentence of not less than seven years and not more than 25 years without the option of a fine.

The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit continues to collaborate with the Department of Social Welfare and other stakeholders to provide support services for victims and their families.

Agbodzi began serving his sentence immediately after the court’s ruling on April 14, 2026.
