A delegation from the Volta Regional Queen Mothers’ Association, led by Mamaga Sename III, has paid a courtesy visit to Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, to officially introduce their newly elected executives and engage in discussions on pressing development concerns within their communities.
The visit formed part of efforts by the Association to strengthen ties with the Regional Coordinating Council and reaffirm the role of traditional female leadership in governance and community advancement. During the meeting, the Queen Mothers expressed appreciation for the Minister’s stewardship and pledged their full support for government policies and programmes aimed at improving livelihoods across the region.
They further used the platform to draw attention to a range of challenges affecting their communities, including inadequate infrastructure, limited access to healthcare and education, youth unemployment, and social welfare concerns. The delegation emphasized the importance of targeted interventions and appealed for sustained collaboration between government institutions and traditional authorities to address these issues effectively.
In his response, Mr Gunu warmly received the delegation and commended the Queen Mothers for their proactive engagement and commitment to development. He acknowledged the indispensable role they play in maintaining peace, preserving cultural values, and promoting social cohesion at the grassroots level.
The Minister stressed the importance of deepening cooperation between the Association, the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, and the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to ensure a more coordinated and inclusive approach to development planning and implementation. He noted that such collaboration is essential for sustaining harmony and accelerating progress across the region.
Mr Gunu also encouraged the Queen Mothers to continue serving as advocates for education, child welfare, and women’s empowerment within their respective communities, highlighting their influence as key agents of change.
The meeting concluded on a note of mutual understanding and shared responsibility, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to work together to tackle developmental challenges and improve the overall well-being of the people in the Volta Region.
