Volta and Oti to Experience Temporary Power Cuts as ECG Begins Maintenance

Residents in parts of the Volta and Oti Regions experienced temporary power interruptions after the Electricity Company of Ghana announced a planned power curtailment linked to a fire outbreak at the Ghana Grid Company substation at Akosombo.
The incident reduced the amount of electricity available for distribution, forcing ECG to introduce load management measures across several communities in the two regions.
According to ECG, the disruptions were scheduled in phases between midday and midnight, affecting towns including Ho, Kpando, Jasikan, Sogakope, Aflao, Kadjebi and nearby communities.
The utility company explained that the emergency maintenance was necessary to stabilize the network and prevent a wider system failure after the damage at the transmission facility.
The company assured customers that engineers were working to restore normal supply as quickly as possible once voltage levels improved.
ECG also apologized for the inconvenience and urged residents and businesses in affected areas to take precautionary measures while repair works continued.
The latest interruption adds to ongoing concerns over electricity reliability in the Volta and Oti corridors, where officials have previously acknowledged the need for infrastructure upgrades to improve long-term power stability in the region.
