Police foil planned robbery in Obuasi, Amarrest two over GH₵150,000

The Ashanti South Regional Police Intelligence Directorate has foiled a planned robbery attack in Obuasi and arrested two suspects in connection with an earlier GH₵150,000 robbery targeting an Indian national.
The operation followed credible intelligence received on April 16, 2026, indicating that a group of armed men were preparing to carry out an attack within the municipality.
Acting swiftly, a police team arrested Iddrisu Fuseini, also known as “Iddi,” at his hideout in Bedieso. During interrogation, he admitted involvement in the April 12, 2026 robbery at New Baakoyeden, where the victim was attacked at his residence and robbed of GH₵150,000.

Investigations revealed that the attack was allegedly facilitated by an insider, identified as Ibrahim, an employee of the victim, who is said to have provided information on the presence of large sums of money in the house.
Further intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of a second suspect, Shaibu Mohammed, also known as “SM” or “Cicinati,” on April 20, 2026, at Gausu in Obuasi. He is reported to have played a key role in planning the robbery.
Police disclosed that the suspects were also part of a broader criminal network that had advanced plans to carry out a separate robbery at a distribution company near Mawuli Hotel in Obuasi. The planned attack was successfully disrupted through the police intervention.
Preliminary findings indicate that the two suspects are already standing trial at the Obuasi Circuit Court in connection with another robbery case involving GH₵600,000, suggesting a pattern of organised criminal activity.
A manhunt has been launched for additional suspects identified as Khalifa, Edward, Prof, Waddle, Ebbe, and Ibrahim, who are believed to be at large. Police say efforts are underway to retrieve weapons linked to the group, including a pump-action gun and a locally manufactured pistol.
No injuries were recorded in the April 12 incident; however, the stolen GH₵150,000 has yet to be recovered.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Intelligence Directorate has appealed to the public to volunteer credible information to aid the arrest of the remaining suspects.
The two suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations.
