Two Dead, Five Injured in Assin Fosu Road Crash

Two people have died and five others sustained injuries following a head-on collision involving a Toyota Sienta and a Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus at Assin Fosu in the Central Region.

The crash occurred at about 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026, when the Sienta, which was travelling from Cape Coast, reportedly attempted to overtake another vehicle before colliding with the oncoming MMT bus travelling from Kumasi.

The deceased have been identified as the driver of the Sienta and one of its passengers. Five other occupants of the vehicle reportedly sustained injuries and were rushed to a health facility for medical attention.

According to the Central North Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) Commander, ASP Wonder Lumor, the vehicle being overtaken by the Sienta had slowed down to make a turn.

The Sienta driver, in attempting to overtake the vehicle, reportedly moved into the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with the MMT bus.

The impact resulted in fatalities and injuries, with the circumstances surrounding the crash now forming part of investigations by the police.

The latest incident has once again highlighted concerns over dangerous overtaking and road safety along major highways in the Central Region.

Authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise extreme caution, particularly when overtaking, and to ensure that the road ahead is clear before changing lanes.

The police are expected to conduct further investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
