Regina Van Helvert Faces Backlash After Awkward Question to Fella Makafui on TGMA Red Carpet

Regina Van Helvert has faced intense backlash on social media following an uncomfortable moment during the red carpet session of the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

The TV host came under fire after asking actress and entrepreneur Fella Makafui a question many viewers described as awkward and inappropriate during a live interview at the event.

During the live interview, Regina asked Fella a question many viewers considered uncomfortable and unnecessary.

“If your ex-husband saw you tonight, what do you think he’d say? We didn’t mention names oo, we just said if your ex sees you tonight, what do you think he will be thinking?” Regina asked.

Responding sharply, Fella said:

“See, you are just looking for a problem for me. I wish everyone the best.”

The exchange quickly went viral online, with social media users criticising Regina for what they considered an intrusive and poorly timed remark on such a high-profile platform.

The incident sparked widespread debate across entertainment circles, with some viewers defending Regina Van Helvert as simply trying to create engaging red carpet content, while others argued that media personalities should exercise greater professionalism and sensitivity when interviewing celebrities in public settings.

Some of the backlash seen are below….

“Utterly needless question from Regina and excellent response from Fella.”

“Charle wee jon oo, why you mentioning her ex?? Ebeii.”
“How can you ask Fella Makafui that question about her ex on national TV? TGMA must apologise to her. Shame on Regina Helvert.”

“Regina better apologise to Fella for that irrelevant and unnecessary question. You couldn’t ask anything relating to her recent times.”

““Very needless question from Regina to Fella Makafui.”

The 27th edition of the TGMA, held at the Grand Arena in Accra, attracted several top figures from Ghana’s entertainment industry and generated significant online conversation, both for its award presentations and memorable red carpet moments.
