Ayariga Pledges to Engage Christians, Mobilise Funds for National Cathedral

Mahama Ayariga has pledged to engage the Christian community and explore ways of mobilising resources to complete Ghana’s stalled National Cathedral if he is appointed Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

Speaking during his parliamentary vetting, Ayariga said he would work closely with the Christian community on the project and seek the President’s direction on how best to support its completion.

He indicated that, subject to the President’s will, he would help mobilise the necessary resources to bring the National Cathedral project to completion.

Ayariga’s comments come amid ongoing public debate over the future of the National Cathedral, which has remained incomplete after significant resources were committed to its construction.

The proposed National Cathedral was conceived as a major interdenominational Christian facility intended to serve as a national place of worship and a centre for Christian activities.

Ayariga stressed the importance of consultation and collaboration with the Christian community should he be given the responsibility of overseeing chieftaincy and religious affairs.

His pledge suggests that, if approved for the ministerial position, the Bawku Central legislator would be prepared to engage religious stakeholders on the project and explore possible funding options.

The National Cathedral project has attracted considerable political and public attention, particularly over its financing, construction progress and the use of public funds.

Ayariga’s position, as expressed during his vetting, places engagement with religious stakeholders at the centre of any potential efforts to revive and complete the project.
