Haruna Iddrisu urges BECE candidates to stay calm and trust their hard work

Haruna Iddrisu, Ghana’s Education Minister and MP for Tamale South, has wished candidates nationwide success ahead of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which begins today, Monday, May 4.
In a brief message issued on May 3, he encouraged candidates to approach the exams with confidence and discipline. He urged them to remain calm, believe in their preparation, and give their best effort in every paper.
The minister also reminded candidates to uphold the highest standards of academic honesty and integrity throughout the examination period. He noted that months of preparation and hard work should inspire confidence as they enter the examination halls.
More than 620,000 candidates from over 20,000 schools across Ghana are expected to sit for the exams, organised by the West African Examinations Council. The examination will run until May 11.
This year’s BECE comes with heightened scrutiny, as authorities intensify efforts to curb malpractice. WAEC has therefore cautioned candidates to strictly adhere to examination regulations and maintain discipline throughout the period.
