Assembly Member appeals for government support to address challenges

Madam Esenam Kakah, the Assembly Member for the Avakpedome Electoral Area in the Central Tongu District has made an urgent appeal to government and relevant stakeholders to intervene in addressing critical development challenges affecting her electoral area.
In an exclusive engagement, she highlighted dire conditions in the sectors of education, healthcare, and infrastructure, which she said are hindering progress and affecting the quality of life for residents.
Madam Kakah expressed grave concern over the state of educational facilities in several communities, including Tsetsekpo, Avakpedome, and Dekpoe.
She disclosed that schools such as Tsetsekpo D/A Primary and JHS, Avakpedome Primary and JHS, and Dekpoe Kindergarten are facing acute shortages of classroom blocks, forcing many pupils to study under trees and in overcrowded environments.
“The situation is deeply worrying,” she said. “In some cases, the lack of infrastructure has led to the closure of kindergarten sections, denying early learners access to foundational education.”
She also pointed to a shortage of qualified teachers, which continues to impact teaching quality and pupil performance.
Compounding the problem is the lack of teaching and learning materials, with students often sharing textbooks or going without, making it difficult to engage effectively in lessons.
Touching on healthcare, the Assembly Member stressed the urgent need for a well-equipped health center to serve communities such as Tsetsekpo, Teleafenui, and Dekpoe.
Shinemegh.com observed that currently, access to basic and emergency healthcare is severely limited, placing vulnerable populations—especially children, pregnant women, and the elderly—at significant risk.
“A functioning health center will not only provide timely medical attention but also promote preventive care and reduce avoidable deaths,” Madam Kakah noted, stating that a healthy population is key to sustainable economic development.”
She underscored the critical need for improved road networks in the electoral area, particularly the route connecting Adabakpo through Agbakpame, Dekpoe to Teleafenui.
She explained that poor roads limit access to schools and health facilities and contribute to rising transport costs and delays.
“A robust road system would ease movement for students, health workers, farmers, and traders, while also encouraging investment and business growth.”
The Assembly Member further appealed for electricity extension from Agbakpame to Teleafenui and other underserved parts of Avakpedome, explaining that the lack of power contributes to insecurity and limits socioeconomic opportunities, especially for youth and women.
Madam Kakah called on the central government through the District Assembly, the Ministry of Education, Ghana Health Service, and the Ministry of Roads and Highways to urgently prioritize the needs of Avakpedome Electoral Area.
“Addressing these long-standing challenges is not a favour—it is a necessity,” she said. “Our people deserve access to quality education, healthcare, and infrastructure. I am committed to working tirelessly until these basic rights are fulfilled.”
She also called on development partners, NGOs, and the private sector to support local initiatives that seek to improve living conditions and promote inclusive growth in the area.
