EOCO escorts Baffour Awuah to law firm, home for inspection

Officials from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have escorted Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, to his former law firm for an inspection as part of an ongoing investigation.
The inspection at Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners followed the MP’s appearance before EOCO on Thursday, October 1, after he voluntarily presented himself to the agency.
Mr Baffour Awuah appeared with his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, and other Members of Parliament.
The inspection forms part of a search authority granted to EOCO by the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 30, which also authorised the agency to arrest the MP and seize documents considered relevant to the investigation.
EOCO told the court that it had exhausted reasonable efforts to secure Mr Baffour Awuah’s voluntary attendance and expressed concern that documents relevant to the investigation could be concealed, altered or destroyed.
The agency has maintained that the MP was invited twice in February 2026 but failed to honour the invitations.
Mr Baffour Awuah has disputed that account, saying the invitations were issued to him in his former capacity as Senior Partner of Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, which represented SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited.
He said that after referring the matter to the Clerk to Parliament, a representative of the law firm appeared before EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30 and provided information requested by investigators, including a written statement.
The investigation concerns alleged unauthorised financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings & Loans. EOCO has linked the inquiry to suspected financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering, although the investigation remains ongoing and details of the alleged transactions have not been fully disclosed publicly.
The inspection follows an attempted arrest of Mr Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23.
