EOCO Arrests Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah After Voluntary Surrender

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has arrested the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, after he voluntarily surrendered himself to the anti-graft agency.
EOCO said Mr Baffour Awuah reported to its headquarters in Accra at about 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, to assist with ongoing investigations.
According to the Office, his appearance followed several months of efforts to secure his attendance in connection with investigations into allegations of criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering, tax-related offences and other matters.
EOCO said after the applicable investigative and operational procedures were commenced, the MP was placed under arrest and is currently cooperating with investigators.
Arrest Warrant
Mr Baffour Awuah’s surrender came a day after the Accra High Court issued a warrant authorising EOCO to arrest him and search for and seize documents considered relevant to the investigation.
The warrant followed an earlier attempted arrest at the Accra High Court on September 23, 2026. EOCO had said the action was part of efforts to secure the MP’s attendance after two invitations issued in February were allegedly not honoured.
Mr Baffour Awuah, however, has disputed EOCO’s account, saying the invitations were connected to his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, which represented SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited. He said representatives of the firm subsequently appeared before EOCO and provided information requested by investigators.
EOCO has urged the public to allow the investigative and judicial processes to proceed without speculation or premature conclusions regarding the culpability of any individual.
The allegations remain under investigation and have not been established by a court.
