Disband Black Stars, dissolve GFA, let FIFA ban us for 2 years while we take time to properly rebuild the team
Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations and Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament, Samuel Nartey George, has called for the disbandment of the Black Stars and the dissolution of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following Ghana’s poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
His comments followed the Black Stars’ 4-2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
Ghana had taken a 2-0 lead through Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan, but The Gambia staged a comeback to secure victory.
The defeat came after Ghana had earlier lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire in their opening Group C qualifier, leaving the Black Stars without a point from their first two matches.
Reacting to the team’s latest setback in a post on X, Mr George said his position on the Black Stars had not changed and called for sweeping changes to Ghana’s football administration.
“As for the Black Stars, my position before is my position today. Disband the team. Sack the FA. Let FIFA ban us for 2 years. Take the time to properly rebuild the team. Truth hurts but the patchwork is worse. Cheers.”
He argued that Ghana should use a possible two-year absence from international football to undertake what he described as a proper rebuilding process for the national team.
His comments amount to a call for a fundamental restructuring of both the Black Stars and the country’s football administration rather than temporary changes following the team’s recent results.
The consecutive defeats have intensified public discussion about the direction of Ghana football and the performance of the national team.
The Black Stars had already missed out on qualification for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, and their opening two defeats in the 2027 qualifiers have increased pressure surrounding the team’s campaign.
Ghana is scheduled to return to action in October for a double-header against Somalia as the team continues its attempt to qualify for the 2027 AFCON, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Mr George’s proposal is his stated position on how Ghana should respond to the team’s current difficulties. It does not, by itself, constitute a decision by the GFA, FIFA or the government to disband the Black Stars or suspend Ghana from international football.
