A Plus denies corruption jibe at AG, blames fake account

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, widely known as A Plus, has formally denied accusing Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, of corruption, describing the source of the claims as a fake Twitter account impersonating him.

In an official statement issued on Saturday, May 3, A Plus clarified that a post branding Dr. Ayine as corrupt and a thief did not originate from him but from an unverified account using his name, image, and a paid verification badge.

“That claim is false and misleading,” he said. “I have never—at any point—accused the Hon. Attorney General of being corrupt or a thief.”

The lawmaker stressed that his only official commentary on the matter was made via his verified Facebook page, urging Ghanaians to disregard the fake Twitter post and consult his authentic remarks.

Responding to the Attorney General’s suggestion that he should be questioned about an alleged scandal involving the National Service Secretariat, A Plus firmly denied any involvement, saying, “I have never received any payment from the NSS, nor do I have any business—directly or indirectly—with the Secretariat.”

He admitted, however, to posting a strongly worded Facebook message in reaction to Dr. Ayine’s comments at a recent press conference, for which he has since apologized saying “Upon reflection, I acknowledge that the tone and choice of words I used were inappropriate… I sincerely apologize to Hon. Dr. Ayine and to the general public.”

The MP also deleted the post as a gesture of remorse, emphasizing his respect for parliamentary decorum and his commitment to national unity.

A Plus reiterated his support for transparency and accountability in governance and expressed regret that the impersonation account had sparked unnecessary tension.

He called for unity in the fight against corruption, saying, “It is imperative that we all engage in this effort with integrity, fairness, and mutual respect.”

The dust-up between the two public officials followed sustained heated exchanges that prompted Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga to announce plans to bring both sides to a private meeting to resolve their differences.
