Ghana to begin final phase of voluntary repatriation of nationals from South Africa on July 25

Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Mr Benjamin Quashie, has announced that the final phase of the voluntary repatriation of approximately 900 Ghanaian nationals from South Africa will commence on July 25.
The exercise follows earlier repatriation efforts that facilitated the return of about 926 Ghanaians to Ghana after they opted to leave South Africa in the wake of recent xenophobic attacks and related security concerns.
Addressing members of the Ghanaian community in South Africa on Tuesday, Mr Quashie said the repatriation exercise was being undertaken with the support of the Office of the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He explained that the operation would be conducted in phases, with flights scheduled daily until all registered beneficiaries had been safely transported to Ghana.
“We are going to undertake the final repatriation of close to 900 Ghanaians who have voluntarily registered in South Africa and expressed their desire to return home,” he said.
Mr Quashie reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to the welfare and protection of Ghanaian nationals abroad and assured those returning of a coordinated and orderly repatriation process.
