NSA, Absa Bank partner to offer overdraft relief to service personnel

The National Service Authority has partnered with Absa Bank Ghana and the National Service Personnel Association to provide an overdraft facility for all active National Service Personnel, aimed at easing financial pressure from delays in monthly allowance payments.
The initiative, announced in a press release dated Friday, April 17, 2026, will allow qualifying personnel to access up to 85% of their monthly NSA allowance as an advance during disbursement delays.
Ms Ruth Dela Seddoh, Director-General of the NSA, said the partnership responds to “frustration” among personnel caused by delays in the release of funds. “We hear the frustration of our service personnel, and we are taking concrete action… This NSA partnership with Absa Bank… will ensure that no NSP will be left stranded due to timing mismatches between their service and their allowance,” she said.
Under the agreement, Absa Bank will provide the overdraft at zero interest for the duration of the delay, with no collateral required from personnel. Repayment will be automatic once the NSA releases the delayed allowance.
The facility is available to all active NSPs with an Absa Ignition account. According to the release, the Absa Ignition Account is a free, youth-focused account with zero maintenance fees, a free international debit card for online transactions, and up to GHS 100,000 travel insurance cover. Personnel can open the account through the NSA student online submission portal.
Mr Edward Nartey Botchway, Managing Director of Absa Bank Ghana LTD, said the collaboration seeks to “bridge that gap and ensure that a delay in disbursement does not become a crisis for our national service personnel,” noting that allowance delays put pressure on young graduates covering rent and transport.
The NSA said the National Service Personnel Association played a pivotal role in brokering the collaboration and representing the concerns of personnel across all regions.
The Authority added that it remains committed to ensuring timely and efficient payment of allowances and will continue to work with stakeholders to improve service delivery.
