Pastor Arrested Over Alleged Death Threats Against Ghana’s Vice President and First Lady

A Kasoa-based pastor has been arrested for allegedly making death threats against Ghana’s First Lady and Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

The suspect, identified as Prophet William Gyimah, 49, was apprehended by the Ghana Police Service’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) following a viral video on social media.

The police confirmed that Prophet Gyimah, General Overseer of Elohim International Ministry, made explicit threats against the Vice President’s life during a church service, which were deemed to have gone beyond spiritual declarations and entered the realm of criminality.

The incident has sparked widespread concern and debate, with many calling for stricter regulation of religious spaces to prevent hate speech and dangerous rhetoric.

Others have emphasized the need for due process and thorough investigation.If found guilty, Prophet Gyimah could face serious charges, including threat of death, offensive conduct conducive to breach of peace, and publication of false news or incitement, which carry significant penalties.

The police have reassured the public that the safety of national leaders remains a top priority, and security agencies are committed to dealing decisively with individuals or groups who threaten national peace and stability.
