2026 Passport Index: Ghana Ranked 68th Among World’s Strongest Passports

In a remarkable recovery, the Ghana passport has been ranked among Africa’s strongest travel documents, placing 11th on the continent and 68th globally in the 2026 Henley Passport Index, with access to about 67 visa-free destinations.
The Ghana passport, which ranked 53rd globally in 2006, dropped to a record low of 84th in 2021 before rebounding to 68th in the 2026 Henley Passport Index — a notable recovery of 16 places.
Reacting to the latest ranking, Ministry of Foreign Affairs credited the improvement to the leadership of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, expressing optimism that the country’s passport would regain a top position in the near future.
As a member of Economic Community of West African States, Ghana also benefits from free movement across the West African sub-region, alongside access to several visa-free and visa-on-arrival destinations around the world.
