18-year-old Nabdam resident battles debilitating condition, appeals for urgent medical support
An 18-year-old lady from Kongo in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region, Ms Azumah Kolobire, has appealed for urgent financial assistance to enable her undergo medical scans and surgery for a debilitating health condition that has left her unable to access the treatment she requires.
Azumah, who has been battling the condition for several months, has developed large swellings around her abdominal region, alongside multiple visible lesions on her breasts and skin.
She has been referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further medical assessment and treatment but said financial difficulties had prevented her from reporting to the hospital and undergoing the scans and surgical procedure recommended for her.
The prolonged lack of treatment has left the young woman in a desperate situation, forcing her to engage in hazardous illegal mining activities in an attempt to raise money for her medical care.
Azumah, however, said the work posed significant risks to her health and was only being undertaken out of desperation to raise the funds needed to seek treatment.
She is therefore appealing to benevolent individuals, philanthropists, non-governmental organisations, corporate institutions and other charitable bodies to come to her aid and enable her access the specialist medical attention she urgently requires.
She has also appealed specifically to businessman Mr Ibrahim Mahama, the Mahama Cares initiative and other individuals and organisations with the capacity to support her medical treatment.
Azumah said her immediate priority was to raise enough money to undergo the required scans and surgery at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, expressing hope that the appeal would attract timely assistance.

The young woman said she remained hopeful that the intervention of compassionate individuals and organisations would enable her to receive treatment and restore her health.
