‘You can never win an argument with a woman’ – Mahama shares marriage lesson

President John Dramani Mahama has shared a lesson from his 34-year marriage to First Lady Lordina Mahama, recounting an experience that taught him the importance of patience and understanding in relationships.

Speaking during the Men’s Ministry Day celebration at the Ringway Gospel Centre Assemblies of God Church in Accra on Sunday, August 2, 2026, President Mahama recalled a disagreement with Mrs Mahama during celebrations marking their 30th wedding anniversary.

He said the disagreement centred on who had played a greater role in sustaining their marriage, and a friend who listened to their exchange advised him to concede the argument.

“This argument, you can never win it,” President Mahama quoted his friend as telling him.

The President said the experience reinforced the need for couples to approach marriage with humility, patience and mutual respect.

“Sometimes, you have to treat your spouses with respect and big pity,” he told the congregation, adding that the way couples relate to each other reflects their faith and the values they pass on to their children.

President Mahama also encouraged couples to nurture strong family bonds and demonstrate values that promote love, understanding and responsibility within the home.
