U.S. Immigration Judge Rejects Claims Against Ofori-Atta Over Lack of Evidence

A United States immigration court has reportedly ruled that there is no evidence former Ghanaian Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, personally profited from his role in government.

According to a statement attributed to Judge David Gardey of the US Annandale Immigration Court, the court found no proof that Ofori-Atta personally benefited from any actions he took while serving as Ghana’s Finance Minister or as a government official.

“There was also no evidence that the respondent personally profited from anything that he did as the Minister of Finance or as a government official,” Judge Gardey is quoted as saying in the ruling.

The reported decision is expected to draw significant attention in Ghana, where Ofori-Atta has remained at the center of political and legal discussions following his tenure in office.

Supporters of the former minister are likely to view the ruling as a vindication of longstanding claims that allegations against him lacked evidence of personal financial gain. Meanwhile, critics are expected to maintain that ongoing investigations and legal processes in Ghana should proceed independently of the US immigration proceedings.

The ruling relates to an immigration matter before the US court and does not automatically determine the outcome of any separate investigations or legal actions that may be ongoing in Ghana.

The development is likely to intensify public debate over Ofori-Atta’s legacy and the broader accountability measures involving former public officials.
