SONA: Ghana is not broke—Akufo-Addo

Outgoing President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akfuo-Addo has said that contrary to claims by many especially the opposition National Democratic Congress that Ghana is broke, the country is very viable.

The President made this known when he was presenting his final State of the Nation address in Parliament on January 3, 2024..

According to him, he is handing over the country with international reserves of $8 billion to the incoming government.

He further stated that Ghana is seeing economic growth, and the country has returned to pre-COVID levels indicating that a country with this rate of growth cannot be deemed broke.

“Mr Speaker, Ghana is not broke, contrary to what the propagandists are saying. We are handing over a country with international reserves worth $8billion”.

Adding that economic growth has returned to pre-COVID levels”.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will leave office on January 7, 2024, and will hand over to John Dramani Mahama, who is becoming president for the second time after his first term.
