“Sack Yourself Too as GFA Boss; The Problem of the Black Stars Is Not Only Carlos Queiroz”
Sports journalist Akosua Boatemaa has called on the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to take responsibility for the challenges facing the Black Stars, arguing that the problems cannot be blamed solely on head coach Carlos Queiroz.
Her comments come after Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign, which saw the Black Stars lose 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire before suffering a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in Accra.
Ghana had taken a 2-0 lead against The Gambia through Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan but eventually conceded four goals to lose the match.
Following the defeat, Coach Carlos Queiroz accepted responsibility for the result and apologised to supporters. He also said the Black Stars’ difficulties predated the latest defeat and that several issues within the national setup needed to be reviewed.
In her reaction, Boatemaa argued that the GFA leadership should also be held accountable for the state of the national team.
She is quoted as saying: “Sack yourself too as GFA Boss; the problem of the Black Stars is not only Carlos Queiroz.”
Her comments add to growing public debate over whether changing coaches alone can address Ghana’s difficulties.
The GFA has retained Queiroz following his involvement with the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ghana reached the knockout stage of the tournament before losing 1-0 to Colombia in the Round of 32.
Queiroz has since faced renewed scrutiny following the defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia. After the latter loss, he said Ghana had gone eight competitive games without a win on the road and acknowledged that several areas of the national team required review.
The debate over the Black Stars’ leadership is expected to continue as Ghana prepares for its upcoming 2027 AFCON qualifying fixtures.
