Reduce facility user fees for continuing students – Haruna Iddrisu to UG

The Minister of Education has instructed the University of Ghana to cut down facility user fees for the current academic year.
At a meeting held at the Ministry in Accra on February 6, 2025, the Student Representative Council (SRC) and the University’s administration, including Vice Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Amfo, made this decision.
It will be recalled that student leaders at the University of Ghana demonstrated against the 25% increase in facility user fees.
They contended that students who had not budgeted for the increase were burdened by the increase.
First-year and continuing students will pay lower facility-user fees as a result of the directive.
“I have asked the Vice Chancellor to reduce the residential facility fees by 25 percent and I have subsequently asked her to engage you (SRC) in the future on any fee announcement.”
In reaction, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Amfo assured the Minister of the University’s compliance with the directive.
“We have listened to you our Minister and also our students, and we can afford to reduce it to 25 percent across the board and going forward there will be adequate student engagement,” she assured.
