Randy Abbey: Long-term host of ‘Good Morning Ghana’ leaves Metro TV

Popular television host and football administrator Randy Abbey has stepped down from his role as the host of the widely watched Good Morning Ghana show on Metro TV after 23 years.

This follows a decision made last December when he officially resigned from his position as the Managing Director of Ignite Media Group (IMG), the parent company of Metro TV, Original TV, and Original FM, on December 31, 2024.

Mr. Abbey’s final appearance as Good Morning Ghana host is scheduled for Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

Graphic Online reported late last year that Mr. Abbey also resigned from his position on the board of Ignite Media Group. He was expected to announce in the coming days whether he would continue as host of the show in the new year.

In a video shared on social media confirming his departure, the channel paid tribute to the longevity of the show and the impact of Mr. Abbey.

The video, which featured an emotional montage of Mr. Abbey, celebrated what was described as the “end of an era”.

It is unclear if regular stand-in host, Annie Afua Ampofo will replace him on a full-time basis.

Beyond his media roles, Randy Abbey is a prominent figure in Ghanaian football, serving as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association and as president of Kpando Hearts of Lions Football Club.
