New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member Vera Wiredu has attributed what she described as the rising incidence of teenage pregnancies to the performance of the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.
Speaking during an interview on GHOne TV, Ms Wiredu argued that inadequate attention to issues affecting young people was contributing to the situation.
“The poor performance of this NDC administration is why teenage girls are getting pregnant indiscriminately,” she said.
Her comments have brought renewed attention to the issue of teenage pregnancy and the broader challenges confronting adolescents in Ghana.
Teenage pregnancy can have significant consequences for young mothers, including disruptions to education and increased social and economic pressures on families.
Ms Wiredu’s remarks also come amid wider discussions about the responsibility of government, parents, schools and communities in addressing adolescent pregnancy.
While attributing the situation to the performance of the government, her comments represent a political assessment rather than an independently established causal link between government performance and teenage pregnancy.
