NPP chairmanship aspirant calls for unity, transparency ahead of Central Tongu constituency polls

Mr Guggisberg Fiagbenu, Assembly Member for Adidome Central Electoral Area and a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairmanship aspirant for Central Tongu, has appealed to party delegates to uphold unity, fairness and transparency before, during and after the party’s upcoming constituency executive elections.

He said the outcome of the elections would significantly shape the future of the party in the constituency and called on members to place the collective interest of the NPP above individual ambitions.

Mr Fiagbenu, in a statement ahead of the polls scheduled for Saturday, July 11, urged delegates to reject vote-buying and any form of inducement, stressing that the office of Constituency Chairman should not be treated as a transaction for personal gain.

“The position as overseer of the administration and strategy of the party in the constituency must not be based on quid pro quo where money or any material thing is offered to delegates in exchange for votes,” he said.

He cautioned delegates to be vigilant against individuals who might seek to influence the election through monetary or material inducements, urging them to vote according to their conscience and in the best interest of the party.

Mr Fiagbenu said his decision to contest the chairmanship position was driven by his commitment to serving the party and its members rather than the pursuit of power or personal recognition.

“I seek to become the Central Tongu NPP Constituency Chairman not for fame or power but out of love for the hardworking delegates and members of the party,”

he stated. He noted that beyond strengthening the NPP, his ultimate goal was to contribute to the development of the Central Tongu District and Ghana as a whole.

The aspirant pledged to reunite and rebuild the party to position it strongly for the 2028 general elections.

He said, if elected, he would work tirelessly with members to secure the party’s first parliamentary seat in the constituency, establish the first permanent constituency office and introduce a structured welfare scheme to improve the wellbeing of party members.

Mr Fiagbenu called on delegates to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electoral process and urged all aspirants and their supporters to accept the outcome of the elections in good faith.

“Let unity prevail over individual attacks. Let us prepare our minds to accept the decision of the majority of delegates,” he appealed.

He also urged constituency leaders and members of the election committee to discharge their responsibilities with honesty, fairness and transparency to safeguard the integrity of the process.

Addressing delegates directly, Mr Fiagbenu said the future of the party rested in their hands and encouraged them to elect leaders based on integrity, competence and commitment rather than wealth or academic qualifications.

“The good leader is not necessarily the one with the highest educational qualification or the most money. Choose wisely for the benefit of the majority and the future of the party,” he advised.

Mr Fiagbenu also paid tribute to party members who lost their lives and those who sustained injuries in a road accident while travelling to the NPP’s 2016 campaign launch at Kpedzeglo.

He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the continued recovery and wellbeing of those who survived the tragedy, describing their sacrifices as a lasting reminder of the commitment and dedication of party faithful.
