Keta NADMO urges women’s group to lead disaster preparedness as rains approach

The Keta Municipal office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has called on women and children to champion disaster preparedness in their communities ahead of the rainy season.

Mr. Wonder Setsoafia Deynu, the Keta NADMO Director, made the call on Friday, April 18, 2026, when he joined the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society of the A.M.E. Zion Church, Keta District, at their Missionary Mass Meeting held at Living Hope Society, Tegbi-Ashiata.

The engagement focused on disaster preparedness and preventive measures as the rainfall season approaches, Mr. Deynu said in a statement.

He said participants were educated on staying alert to weather conditions such as heavy rainfall, windstorms, and thunderstorms.

Practical steps discussed included identifying safe shelters, de-silting gutters to prevent flooding, securing roofing sheets, and cutting down weak or trapped trees to minimize risks, according to the statement.

Fire safety was also emphasized, particularly the proper handling and safe placement of gas cylinders in homes and institutions to prevent fire outbreaks, Mr. Deynu said.

He noted that special attention was drawn to the vulnerability of women and children during disasters. The session highlighted the critical role they can play in championing disaster preparedness, risk reduction strategies, and community resilience as volunteers for Keta NADMO.

Mr Deynu expressed appreciation to Rev. Pastor Godson Ocloo, Madam Innocentia Eyram Tudzi, and the leadership of the society for the invitation and warm reception.

He encouraged groups, institutions, churches, fishermen, dressmakers, hairdressers, and community associations to invite Keta NADMO to their gatherings for similar educational engagements.

“Together, we can build safer and more resilient communities,” Mr Deynu said.
