John Mahama may drop out of 2024 elections

Former president John Dramani Mahama may not be eligible to contest the 2024 elections.

A write sighted by 247newsgh.com filed at the Supreme Court is challenging the eligibility of the former president.

The plaintiff, Kenneth Kwabena Kuranchie is seeking 13 reliefs from the court.

Key among them are;

  1. a declaration that on a true and proper interpretation of article 66 (1) of the 1992 constitution, the number of years of a presidential term in Ghana.
  2. Declaration that on a true and proper interpretation of article 66 (1) and (2)of the 1992 constitution, a person seeking a second presidential term must be a sitting president.

“an order directed at President Kuffour and President John Mahama as second and 3rd defendant to compel them to make available to parliament, all engagements not to do with matters of the state of Ghana”

The suit is also asking John Mahama to seek parliamentary approval for his engagement as a flag bearer of the NDC or prevent John Mahama from pursuing his presidential ambition.

The attorney general is first defendant, former president John Mahama and former President Kuffour are second and third defendants with the Speaker of Parliament as the 4th defendants.
