The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has announced an 8 per cent increase in public transport fares, effective Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The adjustment follows an agreement reached between transport unions and the government after weeks of discussions over a proposed review of commercial transport fares.
The new fares will apply to commercial passenger transport services across the country, including trotros and shared taxis, under the revised fare structure agreed by the stakeholders.
Passengers have therefore been advised to take note of the new rates and prepare to pay the revised fares from the effective date.
The fare adjustment comes amid concerns from transport operators over rising fuel prices, vehicle maintenance costs, spare parts and other operational expenses.
The latest agreement brings an end to the recent negotiations between the GPRTU, the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) and the Ministry of Transport over the fare review.
