Government  is the galamsey kingpin, it can’t fight itself  – Beatice Annan

Beatrice Annan, a member of the Communications Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the government of being behind the galamsey activities in the country and hence cannot fight itself.

Lawyer Beatrice Annan made these comments during a panel discussion on TV3’s NewDay morning show monitored by MyNewsGh.com

 According to her, the government of the day is the real galamsey Kingpin hence the fight against illegal mining in the country is a charade.

Why are we making it look like this fight against galamsey is about some unscrupulous people somewhere and citizens are doing something and the government is fighting? Beatrice Annan further stated that the government did not set out to fight galamsey as they made everyone believe.

According to her, the NPP government had no intentions to fight galamsey. She described their actions towards the galamsey fight as gas-lighting, emphasizing that the fight against galamsey was started and pushed by the media in 2017.

“When the media started the fight against galamsey and began to discover that the people behind the galamsey were political appointees of the government and party executives, to cover the shame, the government said we needed to do something; so they started putting up appearance that seem like they were fighting galamsey and unfortunately Major Mahama lost his life” she added.
