Veteran Ghanaian gospel musician Bernice Offei, known for songs including Life Is Short, Hold On and Kaa She Gbeyei, has died aged 63.
Her death was announced on Facebook by fellow gospel musician Nii Noi on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
Gospel music producer Kwesi Ernest also confirmed the news in a Facebook post, describing Ms Offei as a gospel music legend.
“We regret to announce the passing of our mother, Mrs Bernine Offei. She went to her maker this morning. A gospel Music legend has fallen,” he wrote.
Her death comes days after she was reported missing, prompting concern among her colleagues, fans and members of the public.
She was later found safe, according to reports at the time, although photographs that circulated online raised concerns about her health.
Ms Offei was one of the veteran voices of Ghana’s gospel music scene, with a career spanning several decades.
Her music, which centred on Christian themes and messages of faith, perseverance and life, earned her a dedicated following over the years.
Some of her best-known songs include Hold On, Life Is Short and Kaa She Gbeyei. Other recordings associated with her include Odo A Wodo Mi Nti, Nyame Kokroko, N’adom Ara Kwa and Don Bi Rebo.
Her work remains available on digital music platforms, allowing a new generation of listeners to discover her music.
Ms Offei’s death has come as a loss to Ghana’s gospel music community, particularly following the public concern over her disappearance in the days leading up to her death.
She leaves behind a musical legacy built over decades and remembered through some of the enduring songs of Ghanaian gospel music.
