GES opens 2026 teacher recruitment for licensed graduates

The Ghana Education Service has officially announced the commencement of its 2026 teacher recruitment exercise, inviting qualified graduates with valid teaching credentials to apply.

According to a statement released on social media cited by ShineMeGh.com, applications will be accepted within a limited one-week period—from April 10 to April 17.

The Service is targeting trained graduates who are ready to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s education sector, especially in underserved communities.

Applicants must be in good standing with the National Teaching Council and possess a valid teaching license. In addition, all candidates are required to have completed their mandatory National Service.

A key requirement for this year’s recruitment is the willingness of applicants to accept postings to deprived or hard-to-reach districts.

GES says this condition is aimed at addressing the persistent shortage of teachers in rural areas, where staffing challenges continue to affect the quality of education.

They will also be required to adhere to national teaching standards and actively participate in continuous professional development programmes.

Interested candidates must submit their applications online through the official GES recruitment portal. Applicants are required to complete the application form and upload relevant documents.

GES noted that all documents can be uploaded in either image or PDF format.

By emphasizing readiness to serve in deprived areas at the application stage, the Service is seeking to improve the equitable distribution of teachers nationwide.

The move is expected to help reduce the trend of newly posted teachers requesting early transfers from rural communities, a long-standing issue within Ghana’s education system.

GES is encouraging all eligible and committed graduates to take advantage of the opportunity to contribute to national development through education.
