PARLIAMENT ADOPTS PERFORMANCE AUDIT REPORT OF THE AUDITOR-GENERAL ON FERTILIZER

The Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Hon. Abena Osei Asare has informed the House that although fertiliser is a critical input for improving Agricultural productivity, its supply to smallholder farmers has not been timely and adequate due to challenges relating to availability and accessibility.
Hon. Abena Osei Asare made this known when she moved the motion to adopt a report of the PAC on the performance Audit Report of the Auditor-General on the availability and accessibility of fertilizer to smallholder farmers in Ghana.
The Committee noted the commendable initiative by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to assess and incorporate fertilizer requirements for the various ecological zones and crop types in the country into the planning processes.
However, the Committee observed that the Ministry did not ensure that supplies provided suppliers containing the required blend formulations. The House adopted the report of the Committee.
