Former assembly member demands answers over road maintenance contract in Keta

A former elected member of the Keta Municipal Assembly, Gilbert Korbla Keklie, has raised concerns over road maintenance works in the municipality, calling for transparency and accountability in the award and execution of contracts.
In an open statement addressed to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Keta, Wisdom Seade, and monitored by ShineMeGh.com, Mr Keklie questioned the processes surrounding pothole repair works currently ongoing in the area.
According to Mr Keklie, an individual identified as Godwin Lumor, also known as “Addey,” has been carrying out pothole patching works in the municipality despite not being a licensed contractor.
He further indicated that the same scope of work was recently awarded to another company, which reportedly began operations but performed poorly before halting the project altogether.
The former assembly member is demanding clarity from the Municipal Assembly on several key issues related to the contract. He is seeking answers to the following:
The name of the company awarded the contract, the identity of the company’s owner, whether due procurement procedures were followed, the total value of the contract, the amount paid so far to the contractor, the reasons behind the suspension of the work.
Mr Keklie stressed the importance of transparency in local government operations, particularly in infrastructure projects that directly affect residents.
His concerns highlight broader issues around procurement practices and project execution within municipal assemblies, especially in road maintenance—an area that continues to impact daily life in many communities.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Keta Municipal Assembly or the MCE regarding the concerns raised.
Observers say the matter underscores the need for accountability and proper oversight in the awarding and management of public contracts at the local government level.
