My shop attendants are paid better than some Journalists in Ghana – Bridget Otoo
Bridget Otoo, a broadcast journalist, has expressed concern over low remuneration for journalists in Ghana.
She believes that journalists in Ghana are underpaid, which is contributing to a deterioration in journalistic quality.
The Metro TV Newscaster, who spoke with KSM in an interview, stated that it is important for media firms to ensure that their journalists are paid fairly, as this will help them be more successful and efficient.
She stated that she presently pays her shop assistants more than certain Journalists in Ghana, which is concerning for the practice.
“In 2024, if you pay a Journalist Ghc 3,000 as basic you haven’t committed any crime. But if I tell you the salaries of journalists…I even pay my staff at the cement shop even better than some of them. Money is an important factor in journalism. If people are paid well, they will work their heart off,” she said.
