Kwabena Kwabena to young artistes: It’s a must to have a manager

Ghanaian highlife singer Kwabena Kwabena has said upcoming artistes must still be managed even after making inroads at an early stage.

“It’s unfortunate we get hits from amateurs, and we want to assume that they must be professionals from one day,” the Aso hitmaker told Naa Ashorkor on Asaase Radio’s Between Hours show on Wednesday (1 June).

“How is that possible? I will give you an example like Black Sherif, from what I’m listening to, he even failed some auditions, certain reality shows didn’t even find him good enough, now he makes a hit, a hit single and we expect him to be a performer right there,” he said.

Get managers

He added: “He (Black Sherif) needs a music director. He needs a stage director. He needs a stage manager, he needs someone to put together his act, that’s when we have shaped him to be a pro artiste.”

“We’ve done it in so many of our acts, and it gets to a level where we are expecting so much from them and because we’ve done the hype to that level and they can’t give it to you, we begin to criticise.

“Here we are, we have people who have hits, they go on stage and they perform and the comments are unfortunate. For me, from day one I loved bands, I was already performing with a quartet,” Kwabena Kwabena said.
