Veteran actor Mawuli Semevo dies from fire accident complications

Veteran Ghanaian actor Mawuli Semevo has passed away after sustaining severe burns in a domestic fire accident at his residence. He died at Ridge Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment since the incident on February 7.

Semevo, a resident of Adenta SSNIT flats, was reportedly asleep when a fire broke out in his living room. In an attempt to escape, he suffered severe burns before collapsing outside. Neighbors quickly intervened and rushed him to Ridge Hospital, where he remained under medical care until his passing on February 21, just 13 days after the accident.

Medical reports had initially suggested that a proper assessment of his chances of survival could only be made after 21 days. However, his condition deteriorated, leading to his untimely demise.

The news of his passing was confirmed by actor and Creative Lead for Image Bureau, George Quaye, who paid tribute to Semevo’s remarkable talent and contributions to the entertainment industry. In an emotional tribute, Quaye wrote, “In shadows deep, the stage now stands so bare, The laughter fades, replaced by heavy air…”

Mawuli Semevo was widely regarded for his outstanding performances in film and theater. His distinguished career featured roles in movies such as Harvest at 17, A Stab in the Dark, Escape of Love, Like Cotton Twines, and The Good Old Days: The Love of AA. He also played Baba Fakunle in the theatrical adaptation of Ola Rotimi’s The Gods Are Not to Blame, staged by Image Bureau and April Productions at the National Theatre last year.

His death marks a significant loss to the Ghanaian creative arts industry, with colleagues and fans mourning the departure of a truly gifted performer.
