V/R: NPP gov’t abandoned Sea Defense project—Some Chief

The Some Traditional Council has condemned the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for neglecting the Sea Defense Project, a decision they say has led to the destruction of Salakope and Agavedzi.
At a press conference, the Council expressed frustration over the past administration’s failure to continue the project despite multiple appeals over the last eight years.
Paramount Chief of the Some Traditional Area, Togbuiga Adamah III, argued that had Phase II been completed, the ongoing devastation caused by tidal waves could have been prevented.
With homes and businesses in ruins, the Council is urgently calling on the new government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, to prioritize the completion of the sea defense project.
They cautioned that if work does not resume immediately, the Keta-Aflao road could be compromised, resulting in severe flooding in nearby communities, including Agbozume.
“For the records, the Sea Defence Project Phase I was started during the previous NDC government in July 2015 to cover a 4.3-kilometre stretch from the coastal land to part of Agavedzi. When the NPP government took over the realms of government in 2017, they abandoned the project, let alone start Phase II despite the devastating nature of the tidal waves.
“The government should see the current tidal wave in our community as an emergency situation and call on the contractor who started the Sea Defence Project to return or resume work immediately to save the rest of the communities along the area and especially the Keta-Aflao road,” he stated.
