The Year of Return Left An Afterglow That Must Be Cherished – Nana Addo

The president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Ado has said the Year of Return yielded positive results.

According to him, the events left a lasting memory that must be cherished by Ghanaians.

Speaking at the parliament today in his State of the nation address, he said the year of return was a great opportunity for Ghana to demonstrate triumph over adversity.

“I believe we can confidently say that the designation of 2019 as a year of return and the events that emanated from that decision has certainly left an afterglow that Ghana can and must cherish.

“Ghana became the centre of attention in the African diaspora and indeed much of the world as we led the way with events of remembrance to commemorate 400 years since the first captured African slaves arrived in the Americas and what became the beginning of the ignominious trans-Atlantic slave trade.

“The events being commemorated left deep scars and remains the source of unimaginable grief for all people’s of African descent but it provided a great opportunity for us to demonstrate our triumph over adversity”

He added that measures are in place to make Ghana an attractive and irresistible destination.

“The government is seeking to build on the success and we’re putting measures in place to take us beyond the return”

“The minister of Tourism and its eloquent leader, the honorable Barbara Oteng Gyasi , member of Parliament for Prestea Huni Valley and the rejuvenated Ghana Tourism Authority and it’s dynamic chief executive Akwasi Agyeman are heading the charge to make our country an attractive and irresistible destination, a place of pilgrimage, a nation that everyone with the hint of African blood must visit at least once in their lifetime”

Last year, Ghana became the centre of attention for the African Diaspora and indeed much of the world as Ghana commemorated 400 years of the transatlantic slave trade.

A lot of people from the Diaspora and other parts of the world coming visited the country in 2019.

Celebrities like T.I., Samuel L. Jackson, Danny Glover, Cardi B, Rick Ross, Ludacris, Steve Harvey, among others.
