Stop campaigning for Dr. Bawumia – Kwabena Agyapong appeals to Akufo-Addo
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) aspirant flagbearer candidate Kwabena Agyei Agyapong has pleaded with the party’s leadership to ensure a fair primary.
He advised President Nana Addo Dankwa AkufoAddo and a few important government personnel to refrain from supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for vice president.
He said that the National Executives and party apparatus had to provide each candidate an equal opportunity to speak to delegates and party members.
The former NPP General Secretary said that some party members are being forced to support the Vice President on his campaign trail in an exclusive interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on PeaceFM’s “Kokrokoo” on Monday.
“Dr. Bawumia has been Vice President for seven (7) years, he has his own strength so they should let him conduct his own campaign . . . it’s difficult, we source for our own campaign funds, but for him as Vice President, he is fortunate because of state resources (vehicle, fuel, etc . . .), they should let him run his own campaign devoid of these logistical support,” he said.
“The President cannot play the ostrich and pretend he is not privy to what is going on,” he appealed to Nana Akufo-Addo to ensure a level playing field.
In related news, NPP flagbearer candidate Alan Kyeremanten has pledged to lead a government managed by and for the people if elected.
Mr. Kyeremanten said in a social media post: “I will run a government by the people, for the people, and of the people.”
In order to concentrate on his campaign for the presidency, Mr. Kyerematen resigned from his job as Trades Minister in January 2023.
