Occupy Finance Ministry ‘a fight for the soul of the country’ – Senyo Hosi declares

The lead Convenor of the individual Bondholders Senyo Hosi has appealed to all bondholders, sympathizers and dependents whose coupons are yet to be honoured to join them as they ‘Occupy the Finance ministry

The protest is to last for about two hours beginning 7am to 9am on Tuesday July 11. The individuals include persons whose coupons have still not been paid despite signing on to the Domestic debt Exchange programme. (DDEP)

Mr. Hosi said politicians have taken them for granted and it’s important they send a message to them and other public servants. He Stated on Joy news ‘PM Express’ that this fight is about the soul of Ghana

“We must show politicians and civil servants that you do not take the citizens who empower and resource you for granted, you must be honourable with your word, honour your word”

If someone can take your money and treat you recklessly and you sit aloof, can you imagine what they will do when they realise they can walk away with that, with other things”

The Coalition of Individual Bondholders Groups announced its decision to commence picketing at the premises of the Finance Ministry from Tuesday July 11 until their demands are met.

“The minister, his deputy, they must come and meet us there and see that the people they are talking with are not just people driving in their cars going up and down, these are real lives. We intend to repeat this action but tomorrow is the first signal, every repeat will be stronger and fiercer”

The group released statement on the 5th of July for all members who are affected to join the coalition at the the Finance Ministry.

The Finance Ministry has failed to pay outstanding principals and coupons and has also failed to implement the agreement reached and captured in the Memorandum of Understanding dated May 16, 2023 and signed between the Coalition and the Ministry on behalf of government.

“Payment of some bonds has been in default for over hundred (100) days, and it has been over fifty (50) days since agreeing on terms captured in the MoU with no implementation undertaken nor official communication on a way forward.

“This conduct of government, intended or otherwise, has been condescending, insensitive and disrespectful to its own citizens whose only crime has been to trust their government with their savings,” the statement read

According to the Coalition, the untold hardship and unjustified suffering that has befallen their members as a result of the government’s failure must cease, hence the picketing until their needs are met.
