NPP Must Resolve Internal Conflicts to Win 2028 Elections—Nitiwul

MP for Bimbila, Dominic Nitiwul, has expressed his strong belief that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) risks losing the 2028 elections if internal conflicts continue.

According to him, the party still has a chance to fix its internal issues before the next election. But if they fail to do so, they could remain in opposition for a long time.

“We have been given the chance to reach out and explain ourselves to the people. However, if we begin fighting internally over who wants to become an MP or president, we will end up with the same results,” he cautioned.

He further explained, “What worked in favor of the NDC was their unity behind a single candidate, John Mahama, from 2016 to 2024. They stayed united behind him, with no internal allegations of corruption or state capture.”

Nitiwul believes the NPP was lucky that their supporters chose not to vote rather than backing the NDC or its candidate, John Mahama.

“There were many reasons for the voter apathy—maybe the primaries, the behavior of officials, or issues with the MP and internal primaries. A lot of factors played a role. We should be thankful to our supporters for not voting for the NDC. Perhaps they just didn’t like the NDC or Mahama, which helped us,” he said.

He added that it’s worrying how, just a month after the election, people are already suggesting who should be the party’s next flagbearer.

“We need to calm down if we really want to win,” he advised. “Some senior members are pointing fingers blaming others publicly, but these things should be dealt with internally. Don’t forget—whatever you say now will be used against you in 2028,” he cautioned in an interview with Asempa FM in Accra.
