NDC demonstrators pelted us with stones and injured one officer – Ghana Police
The Ghana Police Service has expressed gratitude to the general public and organizers of the Enough is Enough demonstration for their cooperation during the protest, reporting however that there was a stone-pelting incident in Kumasi that has left one police officer injured
The police blamed the incident on the insistence of some demonstrators to force their way into the premises of the Electoral Commission’s Regional Office in Kumasi in defiance of previously agreed modalities.
“In Kumasi, contrary to arrangements agreed between the police and organizers, the demonstrators attempted to push their way into the premises of the Electoral Commission and pelted the police with stones. The police managed to bring the situation under control and calm was restored. However, one police officer was injured during the incident and he is receiving medical attention.
The Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has reached out to him via a telephone call and wished him well. The police has since commenced an investigation into the incident,” the press release dated September 17, 2024, and signed by the Director of Public Affairs ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi.
The NDC staged the demonstration to demand that the Electoral Commission allow for a forensic audit of the Voters’ Register before the General Elections on December 7, 2024.
