Mahama Terminates Appointment of Keta Port Director

President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed Dr. Alexander Adusei from his role as Director of the Keta Port project, a long-awaited initiative that has failed to progress since its announcement.

Dr. Adusei, who was appointed in 2019 during former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, was responsible for spearheading the development of the port in the Volta Region.

While the official reasons for his removal remain undisclosed, sources suggest the lack of progress on the project was a key factor in the decision.

The Keta Port project was officially designated in 2018 under an Executive Instrument by the Akufo-Addo government, with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) tasked with its development.

However, years after its announcement, the project has yet to materialise, leaving residents and stakeholders in the Volta Region increasingly frustrated.

During his 2024 election campaign, President Mahama criticised the previous administration for failing to advance the project, noting that after eight years, not a single structure had been built.

In August 2024, six private investors expressed interest in collaborating with the government to develop the port. However, no concrete agreements have been finalised, leaving the future of the project uncertain.
