Mahama Spent More Tax Payers’ Money On Cigarettes Than Developing Ashanti Region – Chairman Wontumi

Former President Mahama spent more money purchasing cigarettes to smoke than the money his government pumped into developing Ashanti region, Chairman Wontumi has said.

The Ashanti regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Antwi-Boaskai was responding to statements by former President John Mahama that traders at Kumasi should vote against the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.

According to the popular NPP regional Chairman, development in Ashanti region specifically Kumasi, has soared under the leadership of Akufo-Addo government.

He explained that the situation wasn’t the same in the past when Mahama was President of Ghana.

“The money Mahama spent using to smoke cigarettes, if you calculate it is more than what he approved to used to develop Ashanti region”, he said.

Chairman Wontumi continued that when the people of Ashanti region rose to demand for development, Mr. Mahama told them that they “were ingrates and even if he uses gold to construct their roads, they won’t appreciate him”.

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has urged traders at the Kejetia Market in Kumasi to vote out politicians who failed to fulfill promises made to them.

He made this comment when the “24 Hour Economy Sensitisation Walk” made a stop at the Kejetia Market as part of the “Building Ghana Tour” of the Ashanti Region on January 24, 2024.
