List of ministries scrapped or merged by President John Mahama

It’s now official that the current administration of John Mahama has reduced the number of ministries from 30 to 23.

According to the President, this is a move to help revamp the sector and fulfil his promise to Ghanaians to run the country’s administration with fewer ministers.

While some of the past ministries have been scrapped completely, others have also been merged with others to form one ministry with one minister going to be in charge of that.

We take a look at the list of ministries that have been either scrapped or merged under this new government.

Ministry of Railways

After having a minister for Railways in the last 8 years under the past government and nothing to show according to some Ghanaians, President John Mahama has completely scrapped that ministry.

Ministry of National Security

The current administration sees nothing important in having a National Security ministry and has therefore scrapped it.

Ministry of Chieftaincy

The Ministry of Chieftancy would no longer be stand-alone as it has been merged with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftancy and Religious Affairs.

Ministry of Water and Sanitation

This ministry has been merged under the new administration and all of its work would be taken over by the Ministry of Work, Housing and Water Resources.

Ministry of Work and Housing

This ministry under this new government would now be known as the Ministry of Work, Housing and Water Resources after it was merged with the Ministry of Water and Sanitation.

Ministry of Information

There is going to be nothing like this ministry under this government as its duties and mandate have been transferred to the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations.

Ministry of Youth and Sports

This ministry has been divided into two namely the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.
