Labour Commission orders Fair Wages to restore allowances of GBC workers
The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has been instructed by the National Labour Commission (NLC) to resume paying allowances to select Ghana Broadcasting Corporation employees.
The decision was issued after the FWSC withdrew several allowances from the salaries of employees it deemed unworthy, which sparked uproar from the staff who claim that since inflation is still increasing, the loss of such allowances will make living expenses worse.
Rent, housing, utilities, car upkeep, and transportation are just a few of the allowances that are impacted.
But in a meeting between the NLC, GBC, FWSC, and the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations after GBC staff threatened to strike, the allowances were restored.
The meeting was held on Wednesday as part of efforts to resolve emerging issues with GBC payroll monitoring.
