Just In: Christian Atsu pulled alive from rubble

According to accounts, Black Stars winger Christian Atsu was found alive after being trapped under rubble during a severe earthqua-ke.

Having closely followed the situation since Monday, Yaz Sabuncuolu, a Turkish journalist, stated on Tuesday that “Christian Atsu had been rescued from the wreckage alive!”

Taner Savut, the sporting director of Hatayspor, is still the target of ongoing search and rescue operations, he added.

According to reports, the earthquake in Turkey and Syria resulted in the deaths of nearly 4000 individuals.

On Monday, a building they were in fell after a powerful earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria, leaving Atsu and Hatayspor’s sporting director Taner Savut missing.

Kahramanmaras, where Hatayspor is situated, was severely affected by the earthquake.

Atsu joined Hatayspor last summer and currently plays for them. He and his wife Marie-Claire have three children together.

Atsu left St James’ Park in the summer of 2021 after making 121 appearances for the club. On Saturday, he scored in injury time to secure a 1-0 victory over Kasimpasa.

He paid £3.5 million to move from Porto to Chelsea in 2013, but he didn’t play a single minute for the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

Atsu accepted loans from Newcastle, Vitesse, Everton, Bournemouth, and Malaga.

And in 2017, after Atsu played a crucial role in the Magpies’ promotion from the Championship, they made his deal permanent.

The star eventually played 86 times for Newcastle before moving on to Al-Raed in 2021.

Last summer, Atsu transferred to Hatayspor, where he has scored once in four games for the Turks.
